Gazmog was an Isengard goblin who served as the wizard Saruman's trusted court advisor during the War of the Ring.

Biography[]

Life in the Misty Mountains[]

Gazmog was a lesser Goblin from the Misty Mountains who acted as an informant for the forces of Mordor before the War of the Ring. He was devoted to serving Sauron and was among the few aware of the existence of One Ring. He and several scouts were sent to look for it in the river Anduin, but they found nothing, which made the Dark Lord realize that his prize had been taken.

Saruman's messenger[]

He came into the service of Saruman as a personal messenger and was given authority over all of the goblins gathered in Isengard. As a means to delives the messages to Moria and Mordor, a Crebain crow was placed under his command.

After Saruman had spoke with Sauron through the palantir, Gazmog, Gurbash and Frûshkul entered the Tower of Orthanc and asked the wizard "what orders from Mordor" they had to obey. He led the goblins in cutting down the trees and informed his master of the hard roots, to which the latter responded that they bring them all down.

During the War of the Ring, Saruman, Gazmog and Snagrat oversaw the work in the caverns (fueling of the furnaces, forging of weapons and armor, breeding the fighting Uruk-hai and arming the soldier-orcs). The progress greatly pleased the wizard who appointed the goblin as Court master, thus outranking even the High Priest of the Eye Morkash, who was a chieftain.

He died in the Siege of Isengard.
