Frís II was a beautiful female dwarf who was the wife of Thráin II, and the mother of Thorin, Dís, Frérin. She was named after Frís I.

Biography[]

Frís was born in the year TA 2745 and lived in the great kingdom of Erebor. She was the daughter of a wealthy Guildmaster, Folgar, and his musician wife Aís. She did not have the height of the great Longbeard families, being only 4'4". Her hair was wheat-gold, and her eyes a very striking blue. She was exceptionally intelligent, very perceptive and shrewd, but also extremely compassionate. Her craft was wire-working, and she also made strings and cords for instruments.

At the age of 101, Frís first met Thráin, son of Thrór, in the lower halls of Erebor and the two fell in love. She married Thráin quite young and, hoping to continue the line of Dúrin's Folk, Frìs gave birth to her first child and called him Thorin II, named after Thorin the First, in TA 2846. Six years later, Frís gave birth to her second son and named him Frérin. The two eldest inherited her blue eyes, though only Frérin inherited her lucky hair. Later in TA 2860, she gave birth to her final child and named her Dís. Frís spent most of her life with her children and once every summer, she would take them to the great city of Dale to spend some weeks as diplomatic guests if the King of Dale. Her great joy was her harp, a joy she passed on to her oldest son Thorin and her daughter Dís (her middle child, Frerin, preferred the fiddle).

Frís was killed when the dragon attacked Erebor in 2770 TA. Frís had traveled to the city of Dale where she provided food and gold coins to several children. She, like her husband and children, was aware of the sickness that Thrór succumbed to and believed that bad things would happen, in which it did. It was the day when the dragon Smaug came and wrecked havoc in the city of Dale. Frís made it back to the mountain to remain hidden, but she was killed in the terrible sacking with her mother-in-law before they could escape.
