On March 2, 3003, the refugees and the Rohan army marched to Helm's Deep. However, more than 400 warg riders, led by Sharku, ambushed them during their travel. Before the fight, Éowyn leads the evacuees on to Helm's Deep while Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli assist the riders of Rohan to fight off the enemy.
After a short battle, many Warg riders were routed and slaughtered. However, Aragorn was mortally wounded by Sharku before toppling over a cliff and into a river below. The battle end when rest of the warg riders made a retreat, but would soon come back with reinforcements. Aragorn was believed to have perished, but he survived, and arrived later at Helm's Deep after spotting an army of 20,000 Uruk-hai that were marching from Isengard to Helm's Deep.
